(stinks) what’s happening?? (stinks) Today’s special content is shoes cleaning + restoration! Wash, take apart, paint, and sew How clean will they become? Please look forward to it~♡ Shoe World
all about sneakers You-hi I’m Chunsik of Shoe World I’m Jooseung I’m an expert shoe cobbler,
Ahn Jaebok a.k.a B Fella Old and torn sneakers turn into new shoes once they go through his touch 6000 pairs of shoes restored in 5 years! B Fella, the expert cobbler We will be talking about shoe restoration methods with master Ahn Jaebok your apron is cute Can you get up and turn around~ (Look at here please~) Here are the shoes coming in. Eww-! (disgusted) These are shoes stained with sweat and passion of our Musinsa staff members You know, they were made in 1999 It has been 20 years It is surprising that they still have this in home
(22-year-old Nike Dunk that was released as 2000 Olympics edition) This one has something attached on it It was even rejected from a famous laundry Can all these wrecked shoes be restored? Yes, every pair of shoes here is possible to be restored Let’s begin with cleaning these knit sneakers It seems like you prepared some tools. Please introduce them Basic Shoe Cleaning Kit :
Sneaker cleaner, plastic bristle brush, animal hair brush, and warm water here’s a sneaker cleaner, and then there are two kinds of brush This is a bristle brush made out of plastic
(Product: RESHOEVN8R SHOE CLEANING KIT from MUSINSA STORE) and this is a bristle brush made with animal hair
(Product: RESHOEVN8R SHOE CLEANING KIT from MUSINSA STORE) 1. Mix water and cleaner in 2:1 ratio Can I just use regular laundry detergent at home? I can’t guarantee
※ It’s hard to rinse it due to strong soapy substances in it, so there’s a high possibility of stains and damages the best way is to use neutral sneaker cleaner
(make sure to use a natural detergent) 2. Wipe it with an animal hair brush drawing a circle 3. Wipe the midsole with a plastic bristle brush The basic cleaning is done now Oh, this fast? Yeah 4. Lightly remove the moisture using a cloth
(Never wash it in water) 5. Remove the grime on the shoelaces by soaking them in the remaining detergent These can be easily found from the market
(The next is the advanced grime removal process! ) Old Grime Removal Kit :
cotton swabs, acetone, lighter oil(fluid) Look at these grime stuck in here and they’re also stuck in the scratch from the collision If you wipe them with this oiled cotton swab, then the grime is getting removed and for the grime in the scratches, it will be gone when you rub it harder (dirty) (shining) Is there anything that you should never do? Putting them in the washing machine, or using a random detergent or to put in a dryer without considering the material it can even make the shoe sole be twisted (Product: RESHOEVN8R ADJUSTABLE SHOETREES from MUSINSA STORE) When you dry the shoes, place these shoe trees in them so that the shoes are shaped better (before) (after) (before)
(after) I wasn’t actually worried much about these knit sneakers but this indigo blue sneakers right in front of me… These sneakers were released to celebrate the 2000 Olympics We’ll first do the cleaning, and then color this part and this discolored part… this part was originally white Right, we’ll make here white again Oh really is it possible? Yup
(He was on “SBS Master of Living”) (Removing the yellow sole which is more yellow than yellow teeth) I’ve just taken out all the stitches (tearing down) (ohhhh~) (wohoo~) (reaction party) What are we going to do next? We will be starting from basic cleaning This sound of wiping the leather crisp crisp tear off this cushion part inside the shoe Oh you’re taking that apart too? yeah, because we have to reattach it wow inside is discolored too yes because of the bond glue This process is to shape the shoes by inserting shoe trees into the shoes and now we’ll be removing the damages yes the grime has to be removed first we use lighter fluid to remove the stain on the leather Rubbing with acetone will peel the paint off It must be important to figure out what the material is Right Isn’t it amazing? No other cleaning tools can erase this but look at it working Bond dissolves in oil, so you can use fuel to erase those stains
(Use the lighter liquid) ※ Never use acetone & oil on Suede and Nubuck When you use acetone or oil, suede and nubuck absorb them. So they’re permeated into the shoes, not removing the grime So use them only for the leather products Look at here, there is grime hidden inside Rub it with oiled cotton pads (Removing grime using cotton pads oiled with lighter fluid) Most of the grime has been removed, so it’s the time to polish with a cream The shoe cream colors the shoes, but it is actually meant to moisturize and nourish them Leather shoe restoration
1. Thoroughly apply the shoe cream to every single crease on the leather This really can’t be done without skills We removed the grime and applied a shoe cream
(which has whitening effect as well as leather care) This is indigo blue color Leather shoe restoration
2. Put on a cream that matches the shoe color The color matches pretty well Wow look at the difference (clean) This is rubber discoloration remover that I made on my own What ingredients were used in this? Natural Rubber Discoloration Remover:
Hydrogen peroxide, Sodium percarbonate, Starch, and secret powder We will restore the discolored part of the rubber using this natural remover Leather shoe restoration
3. Apply enough amount of rubber whitener to the shoe sole and cover it with plastic wrap so it does not dry Place it on aluminum foil that boosts receiving UV-rays
(fluorescent light is ok, but sunlight is better) You’re working on something right now, what are you doing? This is the masking process which is exposing areas to be dyed or to cover the unwanted areas We’re about to dye the leather which was discolored to yellow I’ve never seen this before. What is this machine for? This is an air compressor When the tank pressure is filled, the airbrush shoots the paint using the air pressure Leather shoe restoration
3. Color the discolored parts with airbrush and dye Spray and Dry Spray and Dry
and Spray and Dry Do you see the difference in the level of polish? So I’ll polish it just like it used to be before A little bit matte? Yes (Applying matte dye) Can we remove the tape now, I’m so curious about the outcome Okay let me take it off (Yeee) You guys, look at how it changed (just like a new one) So, we just finished the upper part of the shoe… What’s next? We’ve exposed the shoe sole under UV-rays for four hours This is the highlight for me! Oh really? you were wondering huh? let me bring it here (Effect of the natural shoe whitener) (Surprising)
do you guys see the obvious difference in color? How is this possible? It’s not complete white yet but I think the time matters It took only about half a day to get this much white, then imagine how clean it will be after two to three full days under sunlight All we have to do now is to put them back? We need to rub out old glues, clean the residues, and then put parts back together Leather shoe restoration
5. Remove the bond glue on the inner part and bottom part of the outsole We’re currently removing the bond that is attached to the outsole (careful) We have removed most of the glue now A chunk came off there Leather shoe restoration
6. Apply the hardener which solidifies the bond faster over the bond glue (desperate) And do we now glue it with a bond? Yes we do glue it Put them back, attach them!! After enough period of drying, we’ll put everything together Shoe World
all about sneakers We put on the bond glue earlier Now it’s dried up We’re trying to attach the shoe sole after we dry up the bond and then melt it again Is there a reason why you don’t attach immediately after you apply glue? When it’s sticky, there’s no adhesion at all When the bond is completely dried up and does not stick to your hand, then you can attach it adding some heat It’s amazing to fix shoes in such a classic way FINALLY the restoration’s over?! (almost reborn) But it’s not done yet 🙁 We took out the stitches earlier, so now we have to sew again here are two kinds of threads why are there two? We’ll make a ring with one and put the other in, and pull each other There are so many holes It’s not likely to be easy It’s not simply sewing You put one thread in and take it out, and then cross it with the other thread… Does it take about half an hour for doing that? Yeah it takes around 30 mins Well…can I go out while you keep working on it (threading) You’re not pretending it’s hard, are you? No no I’m not time of patience… what is the light of lights?! Fire Light We’re all done now Wowwww let’s give him a big hand (clap) (clap) (clap) (after) (before)
Olympic Nike Dunk released in 1999 (bright white) (Nice back) Perfect transformation of 22-year-old shoes This is not the end;; we still have one more left We’ve completed restoring knit and leather sneakers and left the last one, suede! New Balance They’re totally wrecked I think this is the key point of today Suede is a material which is difficult to care This part is made of cloth and this part is made of real suede while this is fake (fake suede)
(real suede) I’ll show you know how to care and clean each of these Are you confident? Yes. I’ll try Are there any other things to prepare before we start? This is called suede combination brush which is made out of brass and iron
(Product: COLLONIL COMBI BRUSH from MUSINSA STORE) So, it’s used to restore the texture of suede? Yes, this part of the brush is used to scrape the stains off the suede or restore the texture I actually wore suede shoes that were stained with vomit a few days ago (Ewww!) Let me see how you do and if you’re good, I’ll ask you to remove it (hate it) I don’t think he’ll accept it because it’s a vomit stain Yeah..we sometimes refus.. (hey) Okay we’ll accept (hehe) Okay let’s start cleaning and restoring suede sneakers (Basic cleaning!) It’s cleaner than before but I still see the grime on it yes, how do we completely erase it? Scrape it with a cutter knife or use a suede eraser Use a knife to remove the grime? yes You can remove the grime by carefully scraping it with a cutter knife You can use this method or use the suede eraser Suede shoe restoration:
1. Remove the grime meticulously with a suede eraser (rubbing) (satisfying) How long do we have to wait? You have to wait for a little long time Suede shoe restoration:
2. Tape the shoes with masking tape before dyeing Suede shoe restoration:
3. Mix the dyes to match the shoe color and start dyeing Suede shoe restoration:
4. Restore the texture of suede with a cutter knife (Ta-da) This New Balance pair is almost restored (totally wrecked ->good-conditioned used item) apparently there are huge differences even on the screen We have cleaned and restored three pairs of shoes over a long time First, Adidas Yeezy Boost. How did it change? Overall, this shoe had been contaminated due to daily usage so there were old dirt and around the sole area, we’ve cleaned and removed the old grime This one doesn’t seem too old so it was nicely restored just by basic cleaning Second! 22-year-old Nike Dunk released in 1999 This pair can’t be worn because of the worn-out shoe sole (vulnerable to slip) but I’ve done as much as I can for you to display them (shining) I cleaned the white leather, took apart and reattached the shoe sole, removed the discoloration, and sewed It took a lot of time and effort but they were nicely restored as you can see Lastly, the suede shoe! This one gave us a lot of trouble How in the world did you restore this pink color (Wow) This one, we cleaned first and took care of the suede, then restored the texture and then we dyed the front and back. It’s almost impossible to clean these three pairs of shoe like this in just a day You truly are a professional cobbler Today we have actually cleaned and restored shoes together Please tell us some important tips and cautions The most important thing I would like to say is that you can make your shoes last longer by keeping them under constant and steady care in the right method We would like to end this video by asking to subscribe, like, and turn on the notification It was Chunsik of Shoe World, Jooseung (my turn?) and this was the shoe cobbler Jaebok See you next time-! Bye~
