2016 Nordica NRGY Pro 1, 2, 3, and 4 Mens Boot Overview by SkisDotCom

Welcome to Ski Talk. I’m Thom from skis.com and today I’m joined by John from Nordica. How’s it going John? Oh, right on man, thanks. Today we’ve got a great series of boots back for it’s second year, the NRGY Pro Series, which not only is back because it’s an awesome series of boots, but gets expanded a little bit this year. Yeah, definitely some evolution here within the series. You’ve got the NRGY Pro 1 drops into the Pro 2, 3 and then I’m holding the new Pro 4. So amongst all of the Pro boots we get that awesome high performance 100mm chassis in these. Yeah, so it’s like your favorite pair of running shoes, it’s that perfect fit that gives you control and access to the whole mountain with really good wrap and without going to super low-volume boot that you’re just pinned in. Absolutely, and speaking of pinned, they all have a pin cuff to give you that really high performance, on the throttle type feel. Yeah, Nordica has amazing pedigree on the World Cup and the Free Ride tours and the one thing we absolutely know is that with four buckle performance that’s where the pinnacle is. And then to step it up even further, once you literally pin – put a stud in the back of the boot and depending on what configuration you want – that is the way to get the most response out of the boot, period. Absolutely. And then to add to that performance, not only in terms of the precise feel and response, but even the comfort side you guys do custom cork liners in all of these boots. Yeah, custom cork is something we actually have a long history with from the World Cup using cork again. And cork is a really interesting material because you wouldn’t think it but it’s actually really warm, has incredible transfer of energy and it’s highly customizable and holds a really good set to the shape of your foot. So all the way throughout the line, yep. So yeah, you’re going to get that great customized heel pocket all the way through the mid-foot, additional warmth and then just perfect transfer of energy which, I mean, for anybody that’s had one of these on their feet, you can feel that almost instantly. Oh yeah, absolutely, it adapts to your foot right away. And then to keep playing up on the comfort side, even though this is a performance boot, you guys really still do a couple of key things: high traction dual-density soles, super easy to walk around in. Yep, just ensures you’re not slipping and sliding around out there. Yeah and then even more important, the weather shield on these guys. Yep, you’ve got a weather shield. The nice thing with the weather shield is it does lock and seal the environment inside the boot so you’re warm and dry as well and then we actually use a really modern box-cut toe, kind of like you’re favorite skate shoes, neoprene toe box allows a little more room and access in there for comfort and warmth as well. So starting with the 4 that you’ve got there, we’re dealing with a 100 flex boot, full metal hardware – what type of skier are we going to see in that boot? Strong all mountain athletic skier, maybe they won’t huck off the biggest cliff out there but they’ll come right up to it so a good, strong, confident athletic, all-mountain skier. So high-end intermediate all the way up through light weight expert level skier? Yeah, bingo. From there we jump up to the 3, which our big upgrade here is going to a stiffer shell at the 110 flex and then something that I think is awesome is the boot fitter friend. Yep, boot fitter friendly in terms of you can really tweak and dial all the hardware, everything comes off if you need a customization done and you can adjust and press that really easy. Over-sized hardware as well to give better performance and then again we’ve pinned that cuff and you can flip those or pull this one out and make it even softer as need be. So here we’re talking your true advanced all the way up through an expert level skier, somebody who’s going to charge the whole mountain. You know ego is going to tell you you need more boot but the reality is, for the step up right here in the Pro 3, there’s not much more boot you’re ever going to need. If you do need more in a boot, you guys do have the 2 as well. Absolutely. For the guy that feels like that 110 is not going to give him enough horsepower, we can jump into the NRGY Pro 2. The NRGY Pro 2, just as the name says, has tons of energy and this thing will throw it down pretty hard. And if you do need more or if you’ve got a big ego, like myself, you have the N 1 as well. Loaded. Best liner, best response, best hardware throughout. 2 studs in the back for a fully pinned setup, that chassis slides in at 130 and we’ve also oversized the power driver on top so you’ve got a big cervo so you really can pull and get the best wrap and fit. And that as well is also adjustable vertically. I mean this is really your absolute rockstar boot. If you think you need more than this boot you’re absolutely wrong. Yeah, for sure. I mean, again, maybe you came out of a lower volume 93/98 chassis and you realize it’s just time to get into 100mm boot so you can stomp the whole mountain all day long without stressing. Fantastic. So whether you’re looking for solid all-mountain performance up through the best boot, most feature rich, most powerful boot out there, the NRGY line definitely has it for you. Stop by skis.com and check them out. Thanks for joining us.
