How to Paint Leather Jackets : Picking Paint for Painting a Leather Jacket

The next thing you want to do is get your
paints. You can pretty much go to any paint store in town. Pearl is great. Michael’s is
great. What you want to get. I started out with Createx paints. They have flat paints,
also metallic paints, which is kind of fun. A little accents of metallic. Be careful with
the metallics. If you do too much of the metallic, it ends up a little bit cheesy. I’d say use
it sparingly. They are very cool to work with, especially if you have nicks or spots in your
leather. If you mix in a little bit of the metallic paint it covers really well, so that’s
kind of a little trick to use. If you’ve got like a vintage jacket and there’s a really
dark stain, then you can usually cover it with some metallic paint. It’s kind of a little
trick. Actually, my favorite paint is from an amazing company called Angelus. This paint
is actually specially made for leather boots, so it’s super durable. You can wear it out
in the rain. I throw these jackets everywhere. I just toss them around. I’m really rough
with them and it sticks on there really well. This is great. You can go to their website
and order from there. Very easy. Go out, find your paints, get your color scheme together,
and you’re ready to go.

  1. Maybe I'm thinking outside the box here, but is the paint that good or is there something I'm missing that would stop the paint from cracking ??

  2. @4Legs1BackProduction I'm confused by this comment, you say not to use acrylic but when you look up Angelus paint it says Acrylic leather paint.. ??

  3. I'm doing a very fine design so I'm thinking an airbrush is the way to go, rather than anything else. Would these paints work for that, if I dilute them a bit?

  4. if i use acrylic paint, is there a gloss i can buy too next into the paint or go over it too waterproof it?
